Here it is: no warm 'n fuzzies, no academic theories-just hard-core strategies from real world trenches…the long-overdue management book no one but Dan Kennedy would dare to write. This is your permission slip to take back control of your business, enforce standards, manage for maximum profit and actually get performance from your people!

Kennedy covers:

  • The true nature of employer-employee relationships: friendly while you feed them (Why ownership mentality is a futile and dangerous goal)
  • The two most crucial (and liberating) management decisions
  • The worst number in business is…(fix this before it's too late!)
  • Leadership is vastly overrated: a new, rational model for profitable productivity
  • Why and how to make marketing the master-all others servants
  • Mice at play, and how to get compliance when the cat's away
  • Finding the magic “GE-Spot” for your particular business' greatest success with its customers
  • Fairness be damned-to the winners the spoils (it's time to start paying for performance, not for showing up)
  • Is a happy workplace a productive workplace? a serious look at the new, fun mandate-lies the management theorists sell
  • Managing the sales process-the biggest instant improvement (more $ now!)

Kick Butt, Get Kicked Back        Rating:

This guy makes a lot of sense on one level - when you are running a small to medium business and have to watch every dime. I would like to think there are better ways to encourage work than monitoring PC use and putting cameras all over the place. We all know some people abuse or waste their time - so give them more to do and if they can do it - great. It means it was your fault that they didn't have enough work. Then you don't have to spy on your own people.

Also - these issues of waste exist at larger companies. Problem in big companies is that HR has taken over and seem to enforce the rules of PC - which often lead to talk about working but no working. After all - they are there to protect the company and think of reasons of why you are not paid what your're worth. My advice - don't use the suggestions in this book at a big company unless you are sure of it. It might lead to results that are not to your favor.

Dan The Man        Rating:

You need to read ALL of Dan's stuff, whether you own a business or not. Timeless wisdom...

Should be Mandatory Reading        Rating:

No B.S. Ruthless Management of People and Profits raises an already lofty bar once again. This is the MOST 'No BS' of all of the No B.S. books. Definitely not for the faint of heart. If you're just coming out of a leadership seminar or some kind of 'trust fall' retreat in the woods strumming guitars and singing 'Kumbaya' then you're in for a full frontal assault of your senses.

For business owners, this book is like getting a huge whiff of ammonia smelling salts. Your profit making senses are kicked back into high gear and you remember why the heck it was in the first place that you set out to venture the shark-infested waters of a world where there are only two options: black ink or red ink.

The value of this book is easily worth 20 times it's cost. If you read it and you don't see an immediate impact in your business you must be on another planet.

There goes Dan, telling it exactly how it is... again        Rating:

Having made more bad hires than good, I figured I'd get Dan to set me straight before the next hire.

Any person even THINKING about "going into business for myself" should read pages 11-12 on "Ownership Mentality." My goodness, what a wake-up call THAT was.

The bottom of page 13 is PRICELESS. I will remember it for the rest of my life. More importantly, I will APPLY it.

Now that I've read "The Two Most Crucial Management Decisions of All," I will never be the same.

After reading page 33, I finally understand how to resolve the dichotomy between "always hire the best" and "eliminate discretion at the operating level" a la Gerber. It always seemed that those two principles were mutually exclusive, but know I understand that they are not.

Set your ego aside and read this book. You'll soon see that the author has an extremely intimate understanding of the subject matter.

This book is surprisingly cheap considering how much Dan charges for most of his info products.

Get it, read it, and most importantly IMPLEMENT IT.
